We got this and washed it out as we would with any other kitchen item that is new. We then started making ice. As another review stated it takes a good hour to start making the ice. Not 7 min. The worse part is the ice taste absolutely awful. We used filtered water that went in to the machine tasting great and it comes out tasting like a chemical. Our dog (who loves ice) won't even eat it. I tried contacting magic chef, put on hold forever then they wanted to give me another number to call regarding this product. Forget it. I returned the thing. Not worth the money.

Magic Chef Portable Ice Maker So one of my friends had this small white thing in the corner of his kitchen that kept making noises every ten minutes or so. I said "What the hell is that?" He said " My ice maker". I went and looked at it and my eyes lit up! My family uses aLOT of ice for coolers drinks food etc. and the fridge was not cutting the mustard with its ice maker. He said it worked great and kept him in business. So when I got home off to Target I went to get this item. I looked at many different models on the internet and they all looked the same and basicaly do the same thing MAKE ICE!! What the hell else should it do?! Anyway- no matter which one you look at people say the light stays on or it does not make ice fast enough or something else.
I do have to admit- it does have quite a few moving parts so I am giving it a 50/50 chance of making it past 3 years or so!
In went the water and out came the ice in about 7 minutes as expected. It fills the container in about an hour so a trip to the cooler to dump is required. It filled my 48 cooler in about a day with suppling ice for drinks to multiple house guests as well. I am giving it a rest tonight! It is quiet and makes ice at a good pace. Basic controls and has

This thing is such a piece of crap it's hard to know where to begin. I'll just list my complaints as they come into my mind:

1. Ice sticks and drips. The ice does not seperate, you must break them by hand, and get your hands wet and cold, becasue this ice is not cold enough to handle without getting really wet. And it makes some flimsy ice, man! Put it in a drink, and it's gone in minutes if not seconds. Now you have some watered-down-with-plastic-tasting beverages to enjoy. I kid you not.

2. Does not dump ice in the ice bucket. When the top section of the ice maker becomes full of ice, new batches are supposed to push prior ones into the bucket below. This piece of crap lets the ice crowd up there, and then the red light that indicates that the ice bucket is full lights up. So unless you want watch this thing make ice and push it into the bucket by hand, expect to get three of four batches before the machine stops making ice because it thinks it's full.

3. Water must be COLD. That makes sense, but I mean ICE COLD. Unless the water itself is near freezing this thing won't make ice. Forget about cold tap water. That's not cold enough. You need water that's been in the fridge for a few hours and then, maybe.

4. Environment must be COLD. That's right. Unless you live in a freezer, don't expect this thing to make ice. You can't put it anywhere even close to room temperature. Those of you who plan on using this outdoors for a BBQ or party or whatnot, fuggedaboutit.

Maybe I'm the exception here, some people seem mildly satisfied with this piece of crap, but before you decide to buy this thing ask yourself if it's worth it. Trust me... find another brand. This thing will suck time and money right out of your hands.

product is exactly what i need--only fault is that ice does melt must keep machine on constantly and it remakes ice as water melts
