Some people complained about the quality of this package, but I think it is great! Good price, decent quality and it all fits in a small box. I am happy with it and recommend it to value shoppers!


This kit is extremely helpful in canning. It made the whole process a lot easier.


I love to make homemade jams and sauces and have always wanted a canning accessories set. This one is inexpensive and had everything I needed. The items are good quality (even though they don't appear to be at first) and very easy to use. I made two types of preserves for Christmas gifts and this set made it easier than ever.


Everything I needed was in this package, and the price was very reasonable, even with shipping the cost was comparable to similar items in local stores.


There isn't a lot to say about this product other than it does what we need it to do. We've used it a few times now, to make jelly and sauce, and these utensils have been mandatory, and very useful.


Well made tools function as designed. Very helpful in all aspects of the canning process.

This is a great kit for beginning canners and contains all of the utensils needed for canning. This is a great product for a great price.


We have used this several times since we recieved it a couple weeks ago. The one piece I have been a little disappointed with is the lid magnet. It did not pick up the lids very well, (it is a little dangerous to fingers to have lids drop and splash boiling water) I finally just gave up and used the tongs to get the lids out. That being said the other products have worked well.


I didn't need to use a couple of the items, but if I was brand new to canning, this grouping would have been a godsend.


Very pleased with the kit! So far I have made peach preserves and apple butter. Just in time for the Holidays! The magnetic pick up lid stick is a nice tool as well! Thanks so much!!!!!!!!!!

this was fun the first time we used it, although it is slow, you have to keep putting more and more ice cubes in it to keep pressure on the bottom cubes so they get shaved. The instructions say don't use it for more than 5 minutes straight, and it took us that long to get 4 small half filled cones out. the third time i used it, the gears broke and it doesn't work anymore.

Rival Ice Shaver

Product Description

Novelty Design, Translucent parts, Powerful 45 watt Motor, Shaves ice fast, Easy to use, just use ice cubes from your freezer.

The concept of the ice shaver was great. It quickly turned icecubes into a great refreshment. All was well until the blade became dull. It was difficult to find a replacement source. Finally the company said the shaver was discontinued and there were no blade replacements. I would have given the review more stars if I could have changed the blade, extending the life of the shaver.


My daughter had one of these and after visiting her in TX, I wanted one for myself. Since then, my entire family is hooked and they expect one almost every night. It's a great way to cool off. And it is quick and easy to use. We love ours.


... it's not perfect, try to find it on sale & buy 2. Since falling in love with crushed/shaved ice I've owned several types, this is the best one so far, but it keeps going on the discontinued pile.

Pros
It's more a very fine crusher than a shaver. I prefer that (faster to work, ice doesn't melt as quick), others may not, but I think anything that doesn't work with molds turns out coarser snow.
It takes ice cubes. No need to keep filling molds, & you can add as many cubes as needed for the size of your glass without ending up with unused bits.
No need for a special bowl to receive the ice, just hold your glass by it, press the top.
Comes in several colors if you can find them (blue is best IMO).
This is one of the best looking shavers & has the smallest footprint.

Cons
It will break sooner or later. All ice crushers/shavers do, the blades only take so much. I've owned 3 of these, the first one lasted about a year, the second is still running (~10 months now), & I have a new one still on the box for when this one goes. This is with heavy use, at least twice a day, every day, more in summer.
BTW, the blade is supposed to be replaceable, but I couldn't find it at the Rival site.
The instructions for taking the top apart for washing if you use flavored cubes are not clear, so I just use water cubes & syrup to make snow cones.
The top may come off (on my first one it never did, on the second it did right away, but I managed to fix it).
Sometimes it sticks running (it's supposed to stop when you let go of the top) & you may have to unplug it for a moment, so don't let little kids play with it or use it unsupervised.
You'll never want non-crushed ice again.

Rec's for all:
Never leave ice inside. If your glass is full, either shave the rest into another glass (or the sink), or empty the bits left (not easy on this model). Water inside may drip over the motor. I keep mine by the sink so I can easily tip it over to drain.
Google for some indispensable gear: flavored syrups & straw/spoons (small spoons with long hollow handles you can sip through), both can be found very cheap & are fun & practical with snow cones, ice cream, etc.
If you buy concentrated syrups, practice with a little bit first. The instructions always call for a ridiculous amount of sugar. I've settled for less than 1/3 the recommended amount & I *have* a sweet tooth!


We purchased this ice shaver at Target, it was on the clearance rack. It worked pretty well for about a week, then the top came off. We were able to put it back on, then it came off permanently. We can still use it by placing the top on and holding it down. It still shaves ice well, the construction of the appliance just seems a little cheap.

The product worked fine till it broke, about 2 weeks after using it.The blades bent.
Now, I am stuck w/an ice crusher that I cannot use, because it was a gift and have no place to return it.
If you want an ice crusher that lasts, don't buy this one!


Great product when we received it- makes crushed ice like nobody's business. Very fine ice. HOWEVER... it only lasted about two weeks. Within that time it started to make loud noises, and then one of the two blades on the inside of the machine broke off. Amazon replaced the machine with no problem, but I have not used it since. I went on to another more sturdy machine. Would be ok for the occasional user- we were using it 3-4 times a day.


I really like shaved and crushed ice, so I bought my Deni 6000 and started using it 1-2 times daily. I was perfectly happy with the ice that came out of the machine, but it did bounce around the counter while operating. The main problem was that after only a couple of weeks one of the metal shaving blades broke off, and this turned out not to be repairable. So, I was happy with the thing for a short period of time, but it didn't last long.

this ice crusher works nicely, for the price! only wish i could put in more then one cube at a time. i guess i need a bigger ice crusher for that.


The Deni 6000 Ice Crusher is a great little machine. It looks modern so it fits into the kitchen and it's not huge or bulky or hard to use! I definately reccomend this product!


We got the ice crusher and the problem is that you really have to feed one cube at a time... it does a fine job. but takes a long time...


the ice crusher is a bit noisy, and I was a little dismayed that you had to put in one cube at a time, but overall I am pleased. it does a good, quick job without any mess.


This is a $30 "ice crusher" whose instructions advise inserting just one cube at a time. Even at that ludicrous rate, the machine occasionally jammed. I threw it out, went to Target and bought a $20 Waring blender that has an ice chopping mode. It works beautifully, even with a dozen cubes at once.


The Deni 6000 works good for only a few weeks before it fails dangerously. I have 2 units that did the exact same thing. One of the rotating blades breaks off and comes out with the ice. Fortunately for me I noticed it in my glass before eating it. Two units-identical failures. This machine is a potential safety hazzard. I will be contacting Deni about their defective design. If you use this ice crusher and it starts sounding louder than usual, one of your blades is probably bent and about to break off. Beware!

Snow Cone Cups & Straws (25-pack)

I realized after I placed this order that the shipping fee was more than the purchase price. The item was listed for $4.99 and after I placed the order, the shipping was listed as $6.99. It was difficult to find the instructions to cancel the order and when I finally found the link (the same day), I did not get a response. After I sent a second e-mail, the vendor contacted me to tell me that it was "too late"...the product (conveniently) was shipped. I plan to refuse the package, however, BUYER BEWARE OF SHIPPING COSTS BEFORE PLACING YOUR ORDER WITH THE MENDING SHED. Amazon lists shipping in tiny little numbers next to the items' cost for most vendors, I think, so pull out your magnifying glass when shopping online!


Snow cone cups and straws
way too expensive for what was in the package. I should have realized from the picture that they were not "snow cone" shaped cups, but was in a hurry and didn't notice. My grandson was disappointed.

The Ice Shaver is exactly what we were looking for--something easy to use that makes very fine ice for Snow Cones. You just load the container with ice and turn the top. Our kids love it!


After 3 years of weekly use, my Rival ice shaver died, so I opted to go for something a little nicer. This, unfortunately...stinks. It works, but I shave the ice with my teeth faster and more efficient. So if you want shaved ice, put ice in this machine, go to bed, and you will have it in the morning. Oh and it won't do all the ice...only enough to put pressure on the cutting blade.
It was so bad...I'm sending it back to amazon.



I use this machine every night to make a slushie, and it
works great. It is quick, efficient and works very well.

Unit works very well. Ice is held against the cutting blade by spiral wedges in the top ice bin. Ice pieces sometimes get into a position where they are not being shaved and one has to remove the ice bin and rearrange the cubes. Everything is plastic except for the cutting blade itself and, presumably, the motor. I would prefer more durable construction around the cutting area, but at least is is HEAVY plastic. Receiving cup should have a pouring spout but it does not. No experience with other models.
